very veyr bad mileage on s70 glt S70

Hi,

I have a 98 s70 glt with 55k miles. I've been getting really bad mileage over the past few months but was so used to it I had no idea that it might be the spark plugs. On an 18 gallon tank, I get 240 miles until the tank says empty. When I fill up, I usually have about 2 gallons of fuel left before I arrive at the pump. My car should be getting about 20miles/gal city adn 25 miles/gal highway right?

I bought an IPD tuneup kit that has a 5 bosch copper spark plugs, a distributor cap and rotator arm. I am thinking I might want to get new spark plug wires. A friend told me that the wires can be corroded and that would give me bad mileage. I am guessing that my plugs, distrib cap, and wires are shot after 55k. They were never replaced. I bought the car second hand.

I want to do the work myself, but dont want to screw anything up. Is it easy to change all the gear above? My dealer (Don Beyer falls church va) says it will cost 250$ to do this. Is this overkill? Is the age of the part above causing my bad mileage?

I am seeking your collective wisdom.

Alex
