Details? S80 1999

Do you have any other keys from another newer car on the same keychain, next to your S80 keys? It sounds to me like it's related to your cars immobilizer (sees transponder inside key, needed to start car). If you keep another newer cars key next to the S80s key, that CAN cause the problem you're mentioning. If the S80 key is by itself, then there's probably a problem with they keys antenna ring or immobilizer control unit.
The next time that happens (key by itself), try removing the key from the ignition switch, then restarting the car (not just turning it off, then on w/o removing the key).
If it's not related to having another newer car key next to your S80s key, your dealer should be able to retrieve immobilizer fault codes (if that's the cause) and cure the problem.
Hope this helps?
