Car runs slow until driven for two miles 850 1995

We own a 1995 850 which we really love. However, recently the car will not go above 25-30 mph when we first use it each day. It will travel at this speed for 2 miles and as soon as we hit the 2-mile mark it perks up and runs as it should. Has anyone experienced this situation? We plan to take it to the Volvo service center but would like to have some idea of what the problem could be before hand. As you may gather, we are not mechanically inclined. Help!!!!
