Is SE models are better and cheaper to maintain than GLE 850 1996

Hello guys,

some of you may have seen me posting in the 940 section of this board. Thats because I was unguided when I bought the 1991 940GLE 16 valve three years ago. This car although great fun to drive but maintenance was such a b^#@h. Furthermore some of the parts are quite difficult to find at this part of the world (Malaysia), although the GL version's parts are plenty. This partly due to the GLE's limited production.

So the time has come for me to ditch the 940 and go for something more reliable. Don't get me wrong. When I say reliable I meant a car that does not give a lot of problem except for the regular schedule maintenance and it must be economical than the current 940. I was told that the SE model of 850 is less problematic especially those manufactured after 1995 and the parts are cheaper compared that of GLE. Is that so. I was also told that the gearbox comes with economy mode that save fuel despite its c.c. By the way I am not crazy about how much bhp GLE has compared with the SE because I normally cruise at 80 to 100 km/h. So the top speed is not a big factor. i am more concerned on the availability of parts and costs.

So can somebody share your opinion before I buy the 850 model. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Especially a car that has GLE on it. I had enough heart ache with the 940GLE.

thanks
