I need your OBJECTIVE reviews and advice on 850 wagons 850

I am absolutely in love with the 855 and first generation V70. I asked my Volvo tech for his opinions on the 850 model. He said stay away from them! I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but he knows more than I do. He said they have too many problems and that I will spend money for repairs. Two main reasons he cited were the FWD and the transverse I5. My fragile dream shattered. He suggested a late-model 900 series or V90. I'm not too fond of the 900 series. They look too conservative and dare I say senile. The 855 looks sporty and yet conservative. It has a shape that I like. I know when the time is ripe, I'm probably not going to heed my Volvo tech's advice. I have a dead reliable M-B 190E (1990) that is very clean and in excellent condition. The car is fully loaded and everything works. The car again is very reliable and modestly powerful with its I6. Lately I have been thinking about trading it in for a car that I was told has some reliability issues. Should I take the risk? I'm very interested in the turbo wagons. Can you 855 owners direct me and slap me into reality? I am not in the market right now, but I want to gather as much info as I can so that when the time comes I won't have to pull hair digging for info that is immediately needed. Thanks.
