brakes S70

Yes, for 1998 (and I would guess some later years too) all non North American market S/V70 T5s had the bigger brakes. Here we got the small brakes.

Given the high HP and acceleration of the high pressure turbo cars, this item should not have been downsized in US cars. Was this just a cost-saving decision ?

IMHO, Volvo may be great at passive safety issues, but not always so with respect to active safety issues. Another example of this is the relative undersizing of the tires that these T5 cars are equipped with. These cars should at least have come with (or accept as an option) a 225/50/16 or wider tire.
