TRACS on a 97 850

I wondered the same thing.Previous owner told me that in bad weather he made sure tracs was on and then hit the winter mode of the transmission to drive on bad roads.
I thought maybe by turning tracs off,you might save a few mpgs but havent see any savings.
I have been told that tracs only works below 30-40mph.However,the winter mode works by starting the car off in third gear to prevent slippage.
I would love to learn more about both tracs and winter mode.
