TRACS on a 97 850

I have a 98 T5M. If I accelerate hard the tires sometimes start
to spin and TRACs then engages the brakes. This causes massive
axle hop that sounds like the car is going to destroy the front end.
It is better to just let the tires spin a bit. Apparently, TRACs
was not designed for faster starts; it is designed to get you home
when traction is very poor. There may be other conditions where
it would get in the way (that the factory could not predict) so I
guess a manual override is a good thing.

Having said that, I leave it on 99.9% of the time. On the 70 series
it automaticlly turns itself back on every time you start the car --
the TRACs off switch just disables it til next engine restart on 70
series. I think I'd prefer the 850's setup where the switch remembers

TRACs disables itself at 25 mph on 98 and older cars. Newer cars
with electronic throttle controls have more sophisticated traction
systems.
