Flashing arrow...trans shifts fine. What's up? 850 1986

Got a '96 850 GLT with 94k. This morning when I put it in drive it started of in third and the flashing arrow came on. Put it in reverse then back to drive and now it shifts fine, but the arrow is still flashing along with the check engine light that had aready been on. I just bought this thing and was planning to change the fluids this weekend. The tranny fluid is brownish and looks like it needs a change. I know what a blown tranny feels like. This car shifts like a rock and during normal driving shifts very smoothly, and it's my 4th Swedish car (there's still grease under my nails from the first one)so I'm not getting nervous yet...
Anybody got any suggestions? BTW the outside air temp is in the teens.
Thanks.
