Oil change interval 850 1992

My independent Volvo tech recommends that I change the oil on my '94 850 turbo
wagon(85K miles) every 2500 miles. I plan on keeping the car for quite a while
but this seems excessive to me. I've read that modern engines generate fewer
contaminants and therefore don't need oil changes as frequently as older engines. I drive pretty conservatively and don't stress the car. Cost is not an
issue as I usually change it myself. I use Castrol GTX oil. Comments?
