Starting Conundrum 850

Interesting problem. My 850 fails to start sometimes in the cold using the starter. When it does this it always starts real easily with a bump start (I live on a hill and always park facing downhill!) Have checked Distributor/rotor arm, plugs etc and these look A1. I then wanted to check for a spark and found that no spark is present when the engine is cranking but a spark is present as the ignition key is released and the engine is still turning. Any ideas where the fault could be? The Haynes manual doesn't have a wiring diagram of eth ignition circuit. Has anyone got one?
