Oil Dipstick Handle Liberated V70-XC70 1998

My '98 V70 2.5 normally aspirated, oil dipstick handle cracked at the o-ring gland. Due to the oil environment and the lack of area for epoxy, I called the dealer to inquire about a replacement part, I was informed that there was a mod and it required changing the down-tube and dipstick. Over $65 in parts alone, and I was informed that replacement of the down tube is labor intensive. Anyone else run into this (what seemed like a minor failure)?
