front suspension noise S40-V40 2000

When the right front wheel goes into extension, such as going over the top of a short rise, I get a very loud CLUNK. the drivers side makes no noise at all. I am wondering if there may be a problem with the strut, and what might help in the future. My car only has 31,000 on it, so I am not worried about cost, just curious.
