Check Engine Light - Codes A2-231 & 241

I am working on my daughters recently purchased 94-850 Turbo with 123K miles. The check engine light is on and I read codes 231 and 241 from the A2 socket. From the list in my Haynes I get the following.
231 - Long term fuel mixture too rich in part load range.
241 - EGR system flow fault.
Has anyone diagnosed these codes? What was the problem?
I plan to look at the EGR to see if there is anything obvious.
Newly installed plugs are quite black and the engine stumbles quite a bit and has erratic idle.
Thanks much for any info.
