seat heater element 850

Hi all,
Can someone enlighten me on the seat heater pad. I'm taking my '93 850 GLT to an upholsterer to restitch the driver seat lower cushion. At the same time I'm giving him a new seat heater element to install which I got from the dealer. It appears that the pad I have is for both the lower and upper cushion. The reason I surmise this is that it seems too long to fit just on the lower cushion. It's about 34" in total length. I was under the impression that the seats have two element pads each, one for the lower and one for the upper. Which is it? Also, I know my thermostat is working and the switches are good, but it appears from the new pad I got from the dealer that the wiring is totally separate from the thermostat (it didn't come with a thermostat). How does the thermostat work in conjunction with the seat element if the two aren't connected to each other? Thanks.
