Heater Failure 850 1995

My wife just told me the heater is not working in her 95 wagon ( base model). She says the fan works, but not getting hot. I tried a search on this site for some threads, but found none for FWD cars. On another site a couple people mentioned failed heater cores, but seemed to indicate the failure is evident due to flooded floorboards - no sign of this in our car.

Any thoughts on what the problem is? Home fix or big job?
