MAF sensor problems 850 1994

My 850 turbo wagon('94, 85K miles) has logged a code of a faulty MAF sensor,
yet runs fine. Independent Volvo mechanics could not find any problems after
extensive testing & say the only way to fix possible future problems is to
replace the MAF sensor-a $330 job. Bay 13 suggests cleaning plug contacts
& applying a dielectic grease, then securing the plug-in wire so it does not
move around. Has anyone had similar problems? Cleaning the plug contacts
makes sense, I'm not so sure about applying grease to contacts. Thanks for
any comments.
