Gas leak on '96 850 Will I explode? 850 1996

'96 850 GLT sedan
Having a problem. If I fill the gas tank over half I have a fuel leakage from rear/drivers side near the axle i think. I just got the car and it was only at half tank when I bought it. Maybe previous owner knew, didn't say and my problem now. ?. Any ideas before I get into this investigation? I take it it's not safe to have gas leaking and filling to half all the time is a pain. Plus I would think if there's a leak in system it affects the system somehow? Please, any advice is greatly appreciated.
