Q on timing belt - is it normal to stretch? 850

i have a 1995nissan maxima and i have been told that they have timing chains and not timing rubber belts...when did they change to rubber belts?

if indeed they do now have rubber belts, yes all rubber stretches even rubber timing belts.that is why you change them a regular intervals...however the ultra new timing belts have kevlar imbedded in them that make them last longer supposedly to 100,000miles.when the stretch and get old they have a tendency to jump a cog and if you have an interference type engine you blow the engine when this happens....if it is a non-interference engine then your engine just dies on the road and you cant get it started or if your lucky enuff to have it slip one cog then it may run but with less power.
