Broken fuel line becasuse of fuel filter replacement 850 1996

Hi All,

I have a 96 850 Turbo with 140k km ( around 88k miles). I went an independant garage to get my fuel filter changed. The mechanic said that the fuel filter was hard to remove and it broke off a "retainer" on the fuel line (the retainer was red-colored, he showed it to me). The mechanic said that I'll have to change the fuel line to get a new retainer so that I can get a "secure" connection between the fuel line and fuel filter.

My questions are :

- Did the mechanic break it off trying to remove the filter ?
- Did he have a choice seing that the filter was hard to remove ?
- Do I need to change my fuel line ? (don't know if it's the back or front one)
- if I do need to, how much are the parts and can I do it myself ?

Thanks all,

Lee
