Gearbox teeth chatting for real ? 850 1994

Hi all,

I wonder if any other knowledgeable guys could clear something up for me.

I have been suffering a rattle/vibration at 2000rpm in all my gears. I took her down to the local dealer. I had a Technician drive it around, then myself so I could reproduce them problem.

The Techy says "its not that bad you can hear it over the radio on new cars?” I was amazed at this quote. "Your gearbox teeth are chattering at a frequency of around 2000rpm", can this be true and not a sign of impending failure.

The reason I asked is that another dealer that changed my Clutch last year didn't fully tighten up the gearbox bolts after the transmission oil change. I was concerned they may not be enough oil in so causing the noise?

My 'babe" as covered 189k miles now and only being making this noise as far as I can remember just before Christmas or 3k miles ago.

Thanks in advance.

Mark
