LCD illumination on SC-811 went out 850 1996

Hi All,

The LCD illumination on my SC-811 radio went out. I thought the instructions from fixing the lamps in 813 and 816 radios would work, but they didn't. It turns out that the illumination for the LCD is built into the LCD display. I have never used a soldering iron before and I don't intend to practice on this radio.

In order to get this problem fixed, what are my options? Take it to the dealer to get an exchanged unit? Call Swedish Engineering? Take it to a stereo repair place? Get an Alpine deck installed at a car stereo store? How much is this going to cost? I have seen postings from $350 and up. Forgot to mention, I also have an Alpine CHM-S601 CD changer connect to the SC-811 head unit.

Let me know. Thanks in advance.

Thomas
