Help with '94 855T code readings 850 1994

Hello all-

I'm looking at a 1994 855T for sale and while it appears well maintained, I've found Bay 13 very helpful (much like the excellent 700/900 FAQ here). Now that I've learned that I can read the codes sans expensive tool, I'm considering asking the seller to let me do a code check. Bay 13 has a few of the A2 engine codes explained at the site, but I'd like to check the A1 transmission codes as well. Color of transmission fluid was reddish-brown, and if I buy this wagon a flush would be one of the first things I do to it.

If anyone could help me with advice on checking codes, or could help me decipher the codes after retreiving them, I would much appreciate it. With 162K this car has reportedly been well maintained and hassle free, no trannys or turbos. At the same time, that could just mean the jig is up and if I find any codes indicating serious replacement costs I might just walk away.

None of the Volvo dealers around here stock the booklet listed at Bay 13 for codes, and I am more than ready to purchase one directly from Volvo, but I'd like to do this diagnostic this weekend, which means I can't wait for a book of my own.

Thanks in advance to any volunteers!

Dylan
