When do one replace water pump? 850 1994

I guess it's all about access. Volvo's t-belt is easy to get to and so is water pump. I don't know about Audi but Honda's access is limited at best, so while you at you might as well consider it. But, I wouldn't replace in either of these cars as I don't believe in replacing something just because you at it. Lately I read in a professional magazine that preventative maintenance based on such assumptions does more harm than good and equipment tends to break more often after PMs done that way.
Cheers.
