newbie needs some advice.... 850 1996

You need a new thermostat. These cars should run right in the middle of the temperature gauge because the circuit to the guage is doctored to run in the middle of the guage even if the temperature varies a bit. If the gauge shows hot or cold, the car is really hot or cold!

Take the T-valve out and pop the red cap off. You will find a small spring and a rubber disk, in your case, the disk probably has a hole in it.

If you go to ozbricks.com you can find directions to repair the valve. All you do is cut a new disk out of the cuff of a dishwashing glove or some similar rubber. I have repaired two, and both have lasted more than a year. My wife never noticed the missing material.
