Cracked Center Console V70-XC70 1998

Hi fellow Brickboarders ...

I have a 98 V70 GLT wagon. One February morning in Cincinnati when it was below zero outside, I opened up the center console to get a CD case out of storage and the console lid kept going back, cracking the plastic around the hinge in the process. Upon inspection it seems that the console lid does not have any type of firm metal stop, but rather relies on the plastic console to stop its motion. We all know what happens when Volvo plastic gets old and cold. CRACK! It's not visible except when the lid is up, but the net result is that the console lid travels back much further than it otherwise should.

Anyway, the DW is not very pleased with me at the moment.

Before I get sentenced to drive the minivan, has anyone have this problem before? Anyone have a solution other than replacing the center console section at a cost of God knows what? I really hate to have to tear the console out, but I really don't think there's a glue made that would hold it long term.

Thanks!

Keith
