Does it exist? Nope! 850

I'm guessing that the service writer is new and doesn't have his facts straight. There is no upper control arm and/or upper ball joint on ANY car with struts (unlike 70's era domestic cars for example).
What's probably making noise (guessing here) is a worn upper strut mount bushing as they crack and eventually separate and that makes a very nasty noise over bumps. I'd say it's roughly an 1.5 hour job plus the part (cheap).
Say "NO" to replacing that mode selector switch as there are always codes set in memory for those and that's really not causing ANY problem. We just clear and ignore THOSE codes.
