A 1991 240 83k miles for $2495?!?!! No way!!! 850

Hi everyone ---

I was looking to replace my totaled minivan (not at fault...*sigh*) that I use for work. I stumbled upon a GREAT deal...check it out:

I really need a big car for work (I carry 3 adults around all day), but hey, a good deal, so I checked it out. Manuals and records all there (said 32,000 miles at the 30k service in 1992). This 240 was pretty clean, with sunroof, power windows, looked all stock and factory. So I drove it. Hmm...seemed a little rough for 80k. The carpet and seats are a little worn for 80k as well. I figured maybe it was sitting for a while as there was fading on the trim and interior. Ahh, who cares. At least I know it has most of its useful life ahead of it. I like Volvos too, and this would be my 4th Volvo (I'm 22 years old, I've had a '91 740, '88 240, and now my killer '94 850). So I say the heck with it, I'll take it. We sit inside ready to sign papers and pay and then BLAM! I discover the car has a TMU (True Mileage Unknown) title. Darn!! Now I realize that the car really drives, feels, and looks like a 150k or so car. You cannot believe my disappointment. The salesman was trying to explain that the odometer broke RIGHT when they got it (sucks for them, huh? what luck!). I saw some further evidence that the price had gone from $5995 (ouuuch), to $3500, to the $2495 I was ready to fork over. Just thought I'd share this experience to anyone who has looked at Volvos lately. It sure is hard to find a 10-year old plus Volvo that has not been mickey-moused or abused yet. Good luck!! I think I'll just get another minivan or Jeep Cherokee for work...or something....
