Odometer failure 850

I just filled up with gas and noticed the trip meter indicated 180 miles since the last fill-up. I reset the trip meter and drove home. During the drive home I found the speedometer to work but not the odometer or the trip meter. Does anyone know what causes this to happen and is it an expensive repair?
