850 stereo has punch, S70 doesn't....why? S70

I have a 1996 850 GLT sedan with the 8 speaker premium Volvo stereo and it sounds nice with good bass response. I recently picked up a used 2000 S70 GLT SE which also has the 8 speaker premium Volvo stereo but is has very little bass or punch. Actually its pretty weak and I'm not looking for much! Is there an issue with the S70 premium stereos? It doesn't seem like the S70 should sound different than the 850 being that the cars (deminsions) are so similar.

Ideas?
