Yesterday I addressed my mid-life crisis and put on my first set of high performance tires I have ever had!!! I went with the Yoko AVS ES100/H rated/195/60/15. They replaced the Yoko Avid Touring S rated, which were very quiet and provided excellant gas milage at the S40's higher tire pressure. Normally I drive slow and easy and try for the maximum gas milage...reaching 39.5 tp 39.8 mpg at approx 60mph in my many spring/fall runs from Burlington, Vermont down to Boston and back. (Summer...the A/C is cranking...) I have only put on 75+ miles, mostly highway and what I have observed is amazing! The car tracks down the highway like it was bolted to the center line.... the braking ability is much more pronounced....and the corning....I don't even have to go into!!! However!!!!! the tires are NOISEY!!! Its not a loud whine like a bearing noise....but a very obvious SHHHHHHHHHing noise, kinda of like some tire make going over concrete!!!!! My ist thought is...the tires need a couple of hundred miles to break in!!!! Also the temp was in the low 30's...so the tire is cold and when the temp warms up, the tire will be quieter!????? Fearing that the ride would be harsher because of the much stiffer sidewall (it isn't!) I choose the S40's lower tire pressure of 32/29 but I am thinking that lower pressure tires tend to make more noise, and if I up it to 39/36 it will be quieter......? I realize that the tires might be quiet, its just the sound resonating through the car/frame. So thats it.....now, I have to keep from driving like a teenager and killing myself. thanks, any replies appreciated, Bill
