Stranded- Won't start- fuel pump? 850 1995

'95 850 NA with ~130K miles. It was running fine and wouldn't start after a trip to the store today. It's stuck 30 minutes from home and I need help! It's turning over and sometimes it sounds like it might be firing, but never cranking. I tried starting fluid to give it a kick, but no luck. The fuel pump fuse is fine. I pulled the plastic cover on the throttle to get access to what I think is a little end cap on the end of the fuel rail (along the front of the engine) and it is dry. Is this a valid way to check the fuel pump (I'm used to a schrader valve like on my Jeep to check). I didn't have my cheat sheet on how to pull codes so I haven't done that yet. Is it likely to be the fuel pump? How reliable are they on '95's? If it is, how big a job is it (can it be done in a parking lot w/ 3/4 tank of gas? Is there an easy access point from above (trunk, backseat)? Are there any reasons the computer would keep the fuel pump off?

Thanks,
Charlie(Charlotte, NC, USA)
