GLT VS T5 V70-XC70 1998

The '98 GLT ("Grand Lux Touring") has a low-pressure, smaller turbocharger. The T5 has a larger, high pressure turbo. The engine block, rods, and pistons are upgraded on the T5, also the exhaust valves are sodium-filled.

Just to confuse things, 850 GLTs were non-turbo until 1997.

The 97-on GLT was only available with an automatic transmission in the US, the T5 was available with either a manual or an automatic. Also, the wheels are 16" on the T5 and the tires are wider. There are various trim differences, but much of the standard equipment on the T5 was available as an option on the other models.

The T5 came pretty well equipped in 1998, the only options that I recall were leather seating, load-leveling in the wagon, automatic transmission, a "winter package" with the headlight washers, traction control and seat heaters, and an optional "sports suspension".

I also think most GLTs were pretty well equipped, every one I've seen had leather seating, for example.
