body paint & rust emergency 850 1995

How much will the paint job cost?

I reccomend that you have someone look inside a door, the tailgate, and above one of the inner fenders where the rust is.

Have the floor and structure of the car checked, those are the things that will save your life in an accident. Some of the serious damage starts inside hollow areas and at seams under the car.

They are not going to paint the inside, are they?

I have not seen many, or any, posts about rust here in the last year or so.

I would get a second opinion about the repairs, their cost, and the value of your car after the work is done.

I love my Volvos, but sometimes people get divorced.

I have had some luck with a couple of bubbled spots on our '88 745 GLE by scraping and sanding the rust off, applying rust converter, then primer, and touch-up paint. The repair has lasted two years so far, even if it is not as smooth as a body shop can do.

A few years I had one rusty rear door on a Caprice that I owned, probably due to a bad door drain. A good body shop did clean the damage, inside and out, seal the seam, and paint the door. The repair lasted several years without return.

Good luck, let us know how you make out. Rust is feared by us all!

I have been taking my cars to a small automatic car wash ($3 US with a gas purchase) almost every week during the salt season (Eastern Massachusetts) even if is is raining or snowing if I have to. I check all the body, door, and tailgate drains about 4 times a year, certainly when the snow tires go on and off.
