I think that part of the problem is caused by the disparity between marble clad dealeships with overattentive service advisors and sometimes poor service. If I take my car to a greasy garage I know what I'm paying (not paying) for, however Volvo dealeships tend to be overly pretentious and if good quality service does not follow it creates big disappointment.
I had my share of problems with Volvo dealeships (ended up being forced to sue one over $300 botched job) and luckly can stay away from them since I do 100% of my Volvo maintenance myself. I'm just sorry for the poor folks who at the mercy of stupid service advisors who treat them as cash cows and do not provide good service.
