Transmission 850 1994

I recently purchased a 1994 850 wagon. It runs well. At times, it seems when I
shift from reverse to drive, there is no power in first for about 5 feet, then I can feel first engage. The car is moving forward, without any apparent slippage. It is almost like it is in the "winter Mode" then decides to shift back to first. It has sometimes done this after driving for a period when I have come to a stop. I greatly appreciate any advise you may have. The car has
128k miles on it.
