Is my 850 turbo ('86) prewired for a cd changer? I think so... 850 1996

I am itchy to install a changer that will work with my sc 816 - after reading some old posts, I went fishing and found the cavity back by the left tail light that the changed drops into, and (lo and behold) there were two wires back there - one a flat two conductor (looks like power) and one a round multi-connector that looks like the signal. Cool!

Can I buy an alpine 5960 and plug it in, or do I still need a conversion cable?
Are the cables already attached to the head unit, or do they need to get attached at the dash somehow?

Do I cut the carpet to make a flap over the hole where the changer goes?

thanks for any guidance...
