Question about Timing Belts - Friends 850 850 1995

I just talked with my friend John about his 850. I probably scared him when I explained what an interference engine is. His 850 Turbo has about 75K miles with the original timing belt. He was told between $400 and $500 for the belt replacement - my experience is with RWD, but I think that's just too high for an indy shop.

So, these may be elementary questions, but he'd like to know the recommended interval for replacement of the belt (and tensioner?) and fair cost. We're in the north-metro Chicago area, if that's a factor. For RWD, 1-2 hours usually does it, but the transverse layout may make it more complex. Thanks...
