2000 S40 battery -- replacement S40-V40 2000

I can't say from just reading that the battery needs to be replaced or not, but there's no reason that you can't put any battery you like in there. Maybe you can step up into the 1990s and get a sealed maintenance free one with the green eye instead of the Volvo "check the water levels" one. I've heard good word of mouth about ACDelco (I've got 4 years on one in my Chevy right now and it's working great), but you'd probably be just fine with a Sears or Pep Boys or whatever. Don't let the dealer try to convince you that the Volvo battery is somehow better calibrated for the Nordic heritage of your car or whatever. If the Volvo battery is so great, why do you need a new one already?

Good luck.
