Ball Joint Kit??? S70

I had thought "ball joint replacement" on 850s and S70 was only possible on the 1993 and 1994 models which had the ball joints riveted on. BUT, a friend just had some work done on their 1999 S70 and the dealer replaced the sway bars links, the sway bar bushings, AND installed a "ball joint kit" on the right side.
Was this possible? I didn't inspect the repair, but the way the ball joint is pressed into my 1998 S70.....seems like replacement is a job for a machine shop.
Does anybody know of this new type of repair? I had been told when the ball joint does, the whole A arm needs to be replaced.
