Feels like a loose link between engine & xmission V70-XC70 2001

My 2001 V70T feels like it has a worn universal joint. When driving at any speed specially low speeds, the linkage between the engine and transmission feels very loose. It is felt more when I press and release the accelerator to maintain speed. Also, when downshifting it occasionally bangs when it drops a gear rather than a smooth shift. I brought it to the dealer and he did something to the steering. I said it didn't make sense but he said it will eliminate the problem. Well, it didn't. Before I go back I was hopeing some of you guys can give suggestions or are youhaving the same problem. BTW, I am aware of the turbo lag and this is not it.
