No signal to A/C comp. and panel lights are not blinking. S70

My 1998 s70 with 78,000 miles just lost the signal to the AC compressor. I tried jumping 12v to the comp. bypassing the sensor on the back of the compressor. The cluth still does not come on. Is there some type of thermal swith, or does the climate control computer need to see that the comp. is connected before the comp. turns on? Or do I just have a faulty cluth. Thereis aprox.1.4 lbs of refridgerant in the system. Also I need to know if I can pull any codes from the a/c panel, or do I have to hook up to the OBD-2 conn. and go to the a/c computer. Thanks for all your help.
