Checking error codes but no light comes on 850 1994

Ok so I read about checking for error codes and the proper way to do so.

Turn off car, plug in the slot you want, turn key to on position, press botton and light flashes with error code.

I don't know if this is suppose to happen but when I press the button with the the wire in any plug, NO light even comes on. Does this mean I have no error codes? B/c when I put the wire in B7, I got the 1-1-1 which is the all clear.

I'm a little confused b/c in all the other holes I got NO little, and then for this one I got the 1-1-1. So the question I guess is if there never where any error codes does the light not even come on in the first place?

Last thing, I still have my Check Engine light on and it will not come off. How do you rest-set it?
