AC Compressor Clicking, but system fully charged 850 1994

I had symptoms that sound nearly identical on my '93 last year. The A/C would come on and run for a while. The compressor would cycle on and off frequently. Then after 10-15 minutes it would quite blowing cold air. If it was left off for a short period of time, you could turn it back on and the cycle would repeat. I read many similar posts, and almost invariably the poster was advised to recharge the system. I checked my system, and it seemed to be fully charged. Adding a small amount of R134a simply caused the system to quit working entirely.

Root cause: Bad compressor. It was a fairly expensive fix, but it still seems to be working.
