Having BIG problems removing my Auto Gear Selector 850 1995

When I replaced mine, I was sitting on the center arm-rest and pulled the shifter out. Before I did the pulling, I had to disconnect the leather boot under the shifter first per the Volvo instruction. I twisted the upper edge (right next to the bottom of the shifter) of the leather boot anti-clockwise and then pulled the boot down. After that, I sat on the arm-rest and pulled hard!!!
