Routing Wires Around the Firewall S70 1998

Access is indeed difficult. If you unbolt a couple things and swing them out of the way, the job gets easier. Here are the tricks I used to get my wires through:

1) Long-handled, angled needlenose pliers are mandatory (Autozone, $11).

2) I inserted a long rigid probe alngside the main wiring harness, a piece of coat-hanger wire with the ends deburred and filed smooth. I did this with the aforementioned angled needlenose from the engine side. See diagram, below. For better access under the dash, keep the probe to the inboard side of the harness (toward the center of the car). Easy.

3) I attached my wires to the probe from inside the car (near the brake pedal). I lapped the probe by 3" or so, and wrapped it up with electrical tape. Then, from the engine side, I used the pliers to extract the probe with the wire taped on. Even if the wire slips a bit, the 3" overlap pretty much ensures a successful job.
