How do I fix the recir and a/c lights when they are flashing? 850 1997

They don't ever flash if just low on freon (134a). They only flash if there's a fault code stored and disconnecting the battery won't fix that either.

Unless you want to begin learning diagnostics the hard way (not always does a code mean "replace that part"), you might be better off by just taking the car to someone with experience (dealer or indy). I say this because you might buy a scan tool and still discover that you lack knowlegde/skills to then determine how to proceed. Some here might be experienced/skilled enough but not everyone is.
