disconnecting A/C fitting..problems

I am trying to replace my receiver/dryer on an '94 850..I cannot get off the coontection that goes from the rec/dryer to the evaporator...I bought a ford/chrysler A/C fitting tool to release the spring...it is a round 'collar' and I slid it into the fitting, pushed on it and it does seem to oush the inside spring, but I cannot get the fitting apart....is there something I am missing? Is this the correct tool?
