Best way to clean SC-815 CD player? (WD-40?-just kidding) 850 1997

I have the upgraded SC-815 system w/ single CD & tape player. Any Volvo CD specialist tell me what is the best way to clean the CD player pickup to maximize its service life?
Is using the vacuum cleaner into the front okay?
