Proper design of flutes... V70-XC70

Wife.gov's Oddity has clear Lexan (now THAT's an idea - headlights that don't shatter!) lenses but it's he reflectors are fluted and the pattern is similar to the Volvo's with the E-codes, and better than the Volvo with the DOT lenses. Of course if somebody gave me a pair of HIDs, I might try an experiment .... but there are limits as to what I'm willing to do with a 6 year old car with 120k on the clock that breaks down every couple of months.

I could interpret Mr. Rice's statement to mean that if the headlight design is bad, putting HID bulbs in those headlights won't improve things much. Of course he isn't going to say that unless he wants to spend the rest of his life giving depositions. BTW I've also heard that taking say a Honda Civic and putting Audi projector-beam HIDs in it leads to a truly bizarre light pattern.
